Organisational Change

Change Management Consultancy Services

Berkshire Consultancy Ltd (BCL) is working to support a Russell Group University in delivering against its strategic framework. This support includes providing consultancy, facilitation and training services to its Organisational Development department.  The department have a pivotal role in supporting leaders and managers to implement structural changes, and to maximise the benefits of the structural changes by introducing and supporting changes in culture, systems and processes. In addition we are helping to prioritise their resources and investment in equipping managers, leaders and members of staff to design and deliver change on an ongoing basis, and work directly to support the University in delivering its core business of high quality, and externally validated, research and teaching.

We are delivering a number of change workshops aimed at both University staff in management positions and individuals. Workshop objectives include increasing the understanding around the impact of change on individuals and organisations. Participants are also given the opportunity to practise using tools and frameworks for working effectively with and influencing change.  They are also able to spend time creating individual action plans.

Feedback from the workshops has been positive. People report that the mix of enhanced understanding and practical tools has increased their confidence in leading and managing the next phase of the change process; that they are more aware of their role during change and have more strategies for dealing with a range of responses to change; in addition they are using the planning tools back at work.

Support to Organisational Change

BCL has been offering consultancy support to a large private sector organisation for several years. As part of equipping the organisation to enhance its’ activities, BCL worked with the senior management team to design and deliver an integrated Leadership Development Programme to support the required changes in attitudes, behaviours and skills, working differently with three levels of management. Senior Managers had a sequence of personal coaching sessions, offering personal and tailored support to key leaders.

For the key target management group, a modular workshop approach was designed with an inter-active and experiential approach and with the first workshop focusing on working in an appropriate strategic way, influencing, workload management and coaching. The second workshop was shaped by the participants and was focused on real business issues, including a review and revision of strategy and the presentation of this work to the organisations leadership. For other managerial and supervisory staff a workshop was jointly designed and delivered by BCL facilitators and key managers from the client organisation.

The outcomes of this work has been a range of 24 internal projects, the development and communication of a revised strategic approach, significant changes in management styles and approaches, which has led to increasing amounts of value added work being done internally, as opposed to external contractors. Behavioural outcomes have included the development of a ‘can do’ attitude to work, work and decision making taking place at an appropriate level within the organisation and a significant increase in co-operation, sharing of best practice and support across this geographically diverse organisation.
