Membership of Professional Bodies
The main bodies to which Berkshire Consultancy belongs are the Institute of Business Consulting (IBC), the British Quality Foundation (BQF) and Investors in People (IiP). Our consultants are members of various bodies including the Institute of Directors, the Association of Project Managers, the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
IBC
The IBC is joined with the Chartered Management Institute and together they work to promote and develop excellence in management consultancy and management. Many large purchasers of consultancy, including Astra Zeneca, Barclays, Boots, British Airways, Shell, Diageo, Norwich Union, the Office of Government Commerce and the Royal Mail, have worked with the IBC to develop an approach to assessing professional practise and competence which will be robust and acceptable as a differentiator when appointing consultants. We at BCL recognise that it is becoming increasingly important, when appointing consultants, to have a means of identifying those who are most likely to achieve the desired results and outcomes from a consultancy assignment and have therefore been a registered member of the IBC since August 2004.
BCL was awarded Premier Practice status in 2005 by the Institute of Management Consultancy at the first audit. A Premier Practice is a management consultancy that is recognised by the Institute for the highest standards of professionalism and competence. The practice agrees to abide by the IBC's Code of Practice and has a significant number of consultants who are Certified Management Consultants (CMC®). There are only 29 certified registered consultancy organisations currently in the UK.
The IBC auditor commented that our Practice “exhibited a strong learning based culture. There was a commitment to pursue the development of the highest professional standards and there were systems in place to support that.”
We have also demonstrated to the accreditation body that our internal processes meet the standards for the professional development of our consultants. This enables us to award certified status to our consultants who have acquired the skills and adequately demonstrated the set of competences outlined by the professional development arm of the Institute.
BQF
We are members of the British Quality Foundation (BQF), are registered as a Quality Consultancy and Training Organisation and we comply fully with their Code of Conduct. As part of the BQF’s assessment process, a number of our clients were asked to comment on the quality of the consultancy services we had provided to them.
IiP
We have achieved this award since 1996 and we have consistently received excellent feedback from the IiP external assessors on our culture, our development ethos/practice and our induction process. Some comments from the most recent IiP report are:
“the organisation is strongly committed to supporting development and the commitment is an enduring one”
“Feedback is continuous and constructive and there is a very inclusive culture…there is an evident commitment to equality and diversity”
“Communication is highly effective…Associates say that communication from BCL…is far more effective than with any other organisations with which they work.”
BCL was one of the first companies in the UK to be assessed against the enhanced standards for IiP at its launch in 2002. Our commitment to IiP is further evidenced by the fact that one of our associate consultant team is an Assessor for IiP and has carried out over 30 assessments of large and small organisations; and one of our directors was a voluntary Panel Member with responsibility for overseeing the assessment and quality assurance processes of the IiP.
