‘Inside the Business’ 

BCL is currently working on an innovative initiative within Central Government organisation working with the Senior Management Team (SMT) of a particular unit, to develop their team working, individual leadership abilities and working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Establishment.

Our objective here will be to support the development of the leadership abilities of the senior team, through working in real time on live business issues they are facing in their workplace; particularly through team coaching. This has included observation of the SMT working and feedback on what could be improved, individual coaching sessions, sharing of 360 degree feedback amongst SMT members and creation of a more open culture where difference is understood and managed – in order to improve the working of the SMT.

The initiative includes a blended series of different learning opportunities including: a 360 degree feedback process, 1:1 and team coaching, a ‘foundation’ workshop and Project Based Action Learning Sets where teams are working on real, strategic business issues. The initiative also includes a final workshop where individuals and teams will present to a senior ‘panel’ including the Chief Executive. Teams will present both what they have learned from the initiative and what their team based projects have achieved, by way of efficiencies and savings and in relation to continuous improvement, enabling the establishment to be able to compete, if necessary, against Private Sector organizations. Current indications are that the project teams will make savings equivalent to twice the cost of the programme.
