Transforming Aspirations at Civil Service Learning

The Positive Action Pathway (PAP) project within the Civil Service is designed to ‘level the playing field’ for BME, LGBT, disabled and female staff. We take particular pride in this work: our leadership faculty shares similarly diverse backgrounds to the participants and uses both established models and new models developed/adapted by Berkshire based on our substantive experiences of supporting minority groups in their development.  PAP is a significant initiative in the government’s Talent Action Plan regarding Diversity and Inclusion, and since 2015 over 1500 participants have experienced the programme. PAP has also won a National Training Journal award.

Transforming Leaders at Hitachi Europe

Hitachi’s European 9-month leadership Programme (ELP) was designed for high-potential managers from across the business, to develop leadership capability and contribute to business growth. It provides stretch through tackling projects of strategic and commercial importance to their business unit. It includes virtual working with remote teams and culminates in a presentation day, showcasing the projects to the European Chairman and Chief Executive. Their personal development is assessed using a pre- and post- programme evaluation tool and line manager ratings, evidencing the significant impact of the programme and how it reflects the needs of the individual, their organisational culture and the business to obtain the best value outcomes.

Transforming Ways of Working at BBSRC

Having continually to produce more for less is a difficult circle to square for anyone involved in continuous improvement or cultural transformation. The Office of the Future Project in one of the Research Councils (BBSRC) operated a knowledge network of typically bright scientists making difficult recommendations on long-term research projects. BBSRC wanted to optimise efficiency and effectiveness of core processes to release significant staff time for other priorities. Using Berkshire’s Lean, Learn, Lead™ approach, we involved over half the workforce, creating energy for change from within the organisation and identifying 38 areas for evaluation and improvement: approximately 20% of staff time was freed up and redeployed into emerging priority activities.

Transforming Places in London

Major public buildings are constantly in need of maintenance and upgrading to meet changing requirements, but from time to time major works are required to bring them into line with modern standards and equip them for contemporary use while preserving their essential heritage value. These are highly complex projects, spread over many years, requiring world-class programme management. Berkshire has been contributing programme management to works on two iconic London landmarks – the Palace of Westminster and Buckingham Palace.
